I am a shameless promoter but on my own terms.
I love Coca Cola and Hohner harmonicas.
I can give the best info on hot springs in Kirishima, Kagoshima and Beppu.
I love to network and schmooze

But again: only on my own terms! In that sense, I could never be a markerteer for a company. In fact if I ever go back to the office, it will have to be non profit.

So perhaps I can throw away everything and just have people, places and organizations pay me to shamelessly plug their shit. I guess I would be a "consultant"

homesick

I have to admit it: I am homesick

Not for the politics or the pop culture or any of that ugly shit like guns, racism and NASCAR

But just because...

I am turning 30 and thinking a lot (again). there is something about nationality that is deep and you can't just shake it. I mean when you define yourself, take away "work" and what's left...

I have recently been watching Frontline on the net, and listening to NPR on th net.

There is no real chance to move home anytime soon, given the family situation, so I will just hang in Fuk town and try to get some creativity flowing.

The force is strong in Nip-land to work to death, literally. Life is hard to enjoy.
Being a self-centered slack-ass doesn't help either.

At least there is a Costco 45 minutes away where I can buy Fritos and Corona and blitz my brain away 4 nights a week.

3 Years of Ideas

I started this blog without any sort of real vision, three years and one day ago. It has served me well as it can. I haven't contributed in over a year and a half. Since then I've become involved in all sorts of things. I have to remember this blog is here.

An internet site dedicated to the pros and cons of ...well... everything.
It could start with grass-roots sucks/rocks surveys of towns, and extend into everything from music to consumer goods.

For example:

Why Japan sucks?
Humid climate
Stifling social pressure
Processed fish is various shapes

Why Japan rocks?
Rural beauty
Undiscovered island paradises
Used panty venfing machines

This would require lots of server space and a dedicated Wikipedia-like editorial crew, altho branching into paper publication is not impossible. Perhaps these could partner with the Dr John's readers for excellent toilet reading material.

Translation Non Profit

So I am letting my Business Week subscription expire. While it gives me a good handle on current affairs, I have recently just gotten sick of all the hype and B.S that surrounds this mythical "business" culture. Shit we've been running operations for thousands of years, what's the big deal.

Profit.

And that is what gets me. I am just not into it.
And what do I do well

Translation

So add those together: translation non-profit org.

I don't know how you would operate it, fees-wise, but the aim owuld be to provide translation services to government agencies, universities and NPO/NGOs. There are many Japanese laws that have not been translated, and I would like to tap into that as a service for the greater good. There is a group at Nagoya who does a pretty good job, but this could be expanded.

Another idea: higher ed lingo dictionary. Right now, it's all in my head, but a lot it is standard and could be a good service.

I am only thinking in terms of Japan now, but get someone who knows operations, and it could expand.
